Today was a super fun day. After arriving to the school and getting TONS of hugs, "Miss H! Miss H!!! Today we're doing our airplanes!!!" Yes, you read that correctly, today I taught a lesson where 25 5th graders were flying paper airplanes in a confined vicinity. I also witnessed two 4th grade classes and two 5th grade classes participate in an electricity presentation from the Minnesota Science Museum. You may think that such a presentation would be boring or just involve the students sitting there and listening to a lecture about electricity. Well, it started out that way, but to end the presentation, the presenter thought it might be fun to have ALL the kids (by choice) stand up and make a circle holding one another's wrists with their hands. She then spun a wheel that created an electric circuit, had the student on the end grab the metal ball, and when she finished the spinning cycle, had the student on the other end of the circle grab the other metal ball. Pure. Chaos. Fifty-some children screeched instantaneously and in complete sync. This screech was of course followed by the hearty laughter of children, and discussions of how weird their bodies were feeling.
